We'd already done the big excursions in Sitka on an earlier visit — so this time we slowed down, wandered one of the prettiest little towns in Alaska, and saved our appetite for the best dinner on the whole ship: Jacques. In this stop on our Oceania Riviera Alaska sailing, we skip the shore excursions and just explore Sitka on foot — the Russian history, St. Michael's Cathedral, the harbor, and that quiet small-town feel that makes this port so special. Then we head back onboard for dinner at Jacques, Oceania's French specialty restaurant… and honestly, it turned out to be our favorite meal of the entire cruise. When we were in Rome, we did a food tour through the neighborhood of Trastevere — and it turned out to be the highlight of our whole trip! We tried dishes we'd never have ordered on our own, wandered into little corners of the city we'd have walked right past, and ate our way through some of the most delicious food of our lives. Honestly, no matter what city you're visiting, a food tour is one of the best ways to really experience it — the neighborhoods, the history, and the local flavors all in one evening.
