There's nothing quite like watching the New York City skyline drift away behind you as your ship heads out to sea. Marc and I just experienced exactly that aboard Norwegian Aqua, and we filmed the whole boarding day so you could come along with us.
Why we love a New York departure
If you've ever felt worn out before your vacation even starts — the flights, the connections, the airport lines — a cruise that sails right out of Manhattan was a breath of fresh air for us. We simply drove up, handed off our bags, and we were on your way. No airports, no layovers, no stress. It was awesome!
What boarding day actually looks like
One of the questions we hear most often is, "What is embarkation day really like?" It's completely understandable — boarding a big ship for the first time can feel like a lot if you don't know what to expect. So in this video, we walk you through all of it: arriving at the terminal, checking in, our very first steps onboard, a peek at our cabin, and that unforgettable moment of sailing away past the city.

A first look at Norwegian Aqua
The Aqua is one of Norwegian's newest ships, and we were so curious to see her in person. From the moment we stepped aboard, there was that unmistakable new-ship feeling. We'll be sharing much more about the Aqua as our sailing continues, but boarding day gave us a wonderful first impression.
The best part? Great company.
We didn't sail alone — we had a fun, easygoing group along with us, and what a fantastic bunch of people to share it with. So much laughter and good company from the very first day. It's a reminder that who you travel with can matter just as much as where you go.
